Starting the episode, they featured Caterhams. Since Jeremys a large guy, it was Hamster who took it out on the test track. I think the last feature they had a Caterham was the race between assembling a kit car and the Stig driving from the Caterham factory to the test track. Well, the R500s a great stripped-down track car and might even give the Ariel Atom a real run for its money, 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and 520 hp per ton power-to-weight ratio. But Top Gear wouldnt just settle for the numbers there, they subjected the R500 to the Top Gear Excellence/Embarrassment graph in which it scores high on both axes. Then thats where they took out the Veritas RS3.
The Veritas shares the same shed car tradition of the Caterham but it looks like a 1930s racer with a futuristic twist. Powered by a V8 engine from BMWs M division, its pretty quick. Naught to 60 in 3.6 seconds and with a 2,200-lb body, its got some pretty good power-to-weight ratio as well. However, it does lack some of the performance and fun that one can get from Caterham R500.
Around the track, the Veritas did a 1:24.2 (quicker than the Audi R8). The Caterham did an amazing 1:19.9 - faster than a Veyron.
