The Anti Academies Alliance involves parents, teachers, school governors, trade unionists, councillors and MPs. We believe that the governments Academies programme is privatising our schools.
The Anti Academies Alliance is producing a newspaper.
It will be printed at the beginning of September and we will have it at the TUC Congress to give to delegates. We hope it will be used widely by campaigns and in the Trade Unions and, we believe, will be ideal for sending to councillors and school governors.
The newspaper will have contributions from Ken Purchase MP, Fiona Millar, Francis Beckett, Melissa Benn, Peter Mortimore.
There are articles on what do parents really want?, ULT, International Privatisation, Attainment, Exclusions.
Education Trade Union leaders Chris Keates (NASUWT), Christine Blower (NUT), Christina McAnea (UNISON), Sally Hunt (UCU), Andy Ballard (ATL) are contributing articles.
Education campaigns SEA, CASE and Comprehensive Futures have contributed articles.
Of course there are reports from campaigns around the country, where we have stopped the Academies and where campaigners are organising to stop them.
Would you be able to take copies to circulate to your affiliates?
Prices for the newspaper (the newspaper is free to Anti Academies Alliance affiliates):
9 or less 20p each,
10 or more 15p each,
50 or more 10p each,
100 or more 8p each,
1000 or more 5p each
Cheques payable to anti academies alliance

07:05 pm - Bank holiday goodness
So that's the almost the end of a good long weekend.
On the way home from work on the Friday we dropped in at the gathering to see people we'd not seen in ages, quite frankly I felt so relaxed when I got there I almost went home for me tent :)
Friday night we watched the very poor Alien V Predator Requiem which was a bit pants.
There was character development going on, which seemed a little silly considering you knew most people would get blasted, sliced, chest bursted or eaten.
Predalien thing could have been worse I suppose (mutant alien at the end of alien four springs to mind).
All round it was just poor, even next to AVP, which was a bit rubbish.
I then contemplated going to the pub until I realised I was absolutely shattered so went to bed.

Saturday was big gig day. Little charity bash at the Steam Boat, Trent Lock, Sawley.
We were due on at six so when we turned up an hour earlier to find out they were running a bit late.
Then the band before us only did forty minutes rather than an hour so we were back on track.
We rocked, first gig for new four stringer and he held his own quite well.
I'd learnt from last year and cranked my amp up considerably to compensate for sound disapearing in the outdoor stage, this worked very well :)
New guitar never dropped out of tune and we got the crowd going and drew more people towards the stage, so I think we can chalk that one up as one of our best yet.
Some punter bought me a pint, which in this line of work is one of the highest compliments you can recieve.
Got home for 8.30, so then we ate, played cards and chatted till the early hours, something I hope we'll always be able to do.
yesterday was grand prix (bit dull really), light gardening and then dinner at Karen's parents.
Today Karen went out shopping with her mum and Nan while I chored at home.
Plans are also a foot for a trip to the smoke to see the furtleing one (dull mac related trading may also be going on) and drink wine.

The CSE-Delhi Greens-IYCN survey shows that while there is an acknowledgement of the teething troubles that
T is having, there is also overwhelming support for the system in the city. Commuting data from various agencies support the findings – they tell us that around 60 per cent of commuters on the corridor use buses, while cars actually carry less than 20 per cent of the people.

Available estimates for key junctions on the corridor show that during the morning rush hour on the
T corridor, 200 buses carry 15,000 passengers on an average every day. Compared to this, the corridor has about 5,000 cars carrying merely 5,767 passengers, and 4,000 two-wheelers carrying 4,000 people in the same period.

Said Anumita Roychowdhury, associate director, CSE and the head of its Right to Clean Air Campaign: “The findings of this perception survey are a people’s verdict for
T.”

T a step in the right direction
The survey’s findings reinforce the argument that
T system is an important part of the solution to pollution and congestion nightmare in Delhi. Delhi, once considered to be one of the most polluted cities in the world, has managed to arrest some of its runaway pollution. However, it might soon lose this war if a future roadmap for pollution control, based on public transport, is not set immediately. And commuter friendly
T system would have to be the key elements in such a roadmap. The city is running out of road space to accommodate the exponential increase in car and two-wheeler numbers.

CSE has consistently argued for a better and more integrated public transportation service for Delhi. Buses are an integral part of the public transport strategy affordable, cost-effective and space-efficient. They do occupy twice the road space of a car, but can carry 40 times the number of passengers. They can reach areas with lower travel demand, where a rail system might not work. Buses are already the mode of commute for a large majority. About 8.7 million people travel by bus in Delhi every day; the Metro transports about 0.5 million commuters daily. These are much larger numbers than those traveling by personal vehicles.

Growing congestion hampers the performance of a bus transport system. Congestion leads to slower turn-around and affects service frequency and optimum utilisation. Buses require more time to complete one journey. Giving buses a right of way will help them to improve speed, comfort, accessibility, convenience and costs. The concept of
T is also about equitable sharing of road space by all road users – car and two-wheeler users, bus users, pedestrians and cyclists.

T implementation should be strengthened and improved. There is strong support from the commuting majority for the
T system which is part of the solution to congestion and pollution nightmare in Delhi.

Should
T be scrapped.
