Police said a 24-year-old Bay City woman was hurt this morning when her car crashed into a sugar-beet truck that pulled out of a field in front of her vehicle in heavy fog.
The woman drove west on Salzburg Road, east of Fraser Road, when the empty beet truck pulled out of a field on the north side of Salzburg Road, trying to travel west, said Bay County Sheriff's Department Sgt. John Babiarz.
The woman's car struck the side of the beet truck at 8:20 a.m., though a 3-year-old child inside the car - properly restrained in a child-safety seat - wasn't hurt, Babiarz said.
The driver of the car suffered a minor leg injury, police said. Deputies ticketed the beet-truck driver, a 73-year-old Auburn man, for failure to yield the right-of-way.
The dense fog prevented the truck driver from seeing approaching traffic, deputies said. Police didn't release names of the drivers as of press time.
